In 1984, he moved to Buies Creek, North Carolina and connected with his best friend, Link Neal.

He created a record at his Harnett Central High School, for the most 3-pointers, scoring 77 in a single basketball season.

He loves things made of wood.

In 2012, he along with Link Neal gave the commencement speech at his old high school, then performed a song and made the valedictorian smash the Charmander piñata.

He has a great fear of heights.

After graduating as a civil engineer, he worked briefly with Black & Veatch.

When he was a child, he suffered from febrile seizures which his sons, Locke and Shepherd have inherited genetically.
