Warsi became the first Muslim woman to serve in the Cabinet as a result of her selection. The next day, Warsi was sworn in as a member of the Privy Council.
  • Warsi said on June 20, 2016, three days before the referendum on EU membership, that she could no longer support the Leave campaign due to its bigotry and would vote to stay in the EU. A representative for Vote Leave said that Warsi had never been a backer of the campaign.
